Haines Recovery Position for the Unresponsive person with respirations and a pulse

This video demonstrates the Haines Recovery Position. This is the technique used to place a person in a safe position when he or she is unresponsive, while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

This is one of several ways of achieving the basic recovery position which has a patient on their side with their airway open. Other positions have the lower arm straight out or behind the back. Nearly 60% of trauma victims die because their airway is closed, or because of regurgitation of stomach contents when the cardiac sphincter relaxes and they are on their back. There are other variations but any well trained paramedic would see nothing wrong with this demonstration.
