Making the 10th Doctor go power mad was the best thing done for the character since the 3rd Doctor set the template 40 years ago.

The rant he gives just before he regenerates, "I could have been so much more!" is really chilling, makes you think maybe 10 was special in some way and he knew it, but the universe thought what he could become was too dangerous and killed him.
