  • She is not putting Indians in badlight, she is talking about not fitting in when she went to india. Her Hindi was perfect, I cant wait to get my hands on the book. After reading some of the pages on Amazon he work looks impressive. I wonder if the Indian store incidente was real or made up (acted) only the author can confrim this. There are are 415 languages in India that is true but Hindi is the main Language.

  • @theprophet20 I am a Hindi lecturer and if after one year you speak like that it meas either you have some learning problems or your teachers were very bad. My guess is that she did not accept the culture. I know many Hindi speakers have the tendency to speak English to foreigners but that is not due to bad manners, she should have gone deeper into the culture... India can be scary if you stay there only one week, in the wrong place and with the wrong people. Any place can be scary like that.

  • @holikarang Thanks for your comment. I read some of her book, and must say I was impressed by it, but I accept your assessment of her Hindi. I was surprised by my friend's comment about India, as he seems to me to be an adventurous type of guy, (unlike me!) but each of us is so individual in our reactions to the world and its perplexities...

  • @theprophet20 india isn't scary at all... I get scared easily in general, but i often travel to India without much fuss. Of course you have to get used to the place. By the way, this book cannot really be a profound meditation on language and culture, her Hindi is very poor and I'm not surprised indians cannot understand her.

  • I have just acquired the book, but haven't read it yet. It seems to be a profound meditation on language and culture. Incidentally I know a young Irishman who travelled around the far east with his partner earlier this year, and for some reason he said he found India very scary and was glad to get out of there. On the other hand, he loved the Phillipines.

  • Ms. Rich should stick to writing, as she is not a talented actor. The waiter did a better job with his role than she with did with hers. She enunciates almost too clearly, and her way of speaking is very condescending. I believe this is a prime example as to why book trailers are not such a good idea. Let's leave the acting to actors.

  • I'm buying it. Is it really about neurolinguistics? I love everything about the trailer. I can't believe there are only 2,615 views. This should have gone viral! Good job.

  • :D :D, love it!!!

The dukaandaar was fab and I get the whole chicken barking illustration.

    मै भी हिन्दी सीखती हुं।

  • I heard there're about 415 languages in India...OMFG

  • I was planning to read her book but after watching this video I have changed my mind. She is completely negative about India and its people. It appears she has a chip on her shoulder. I wonder why.
