Hurricane Gustav Relief Efforts

his vignette looks at some of the relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav, which hit Louisiana. C-SPAN visited a staging area for relief supplies managed by FEMA and located in Carville, Louisiana, just south of Baton Rouge. Then we visit a site for distribution of those relief supplies in Baton Rouge and manned by members of the Louisiana National Guard.

Gustav destroyed my home and FEMA failed once again like katrina they said no help for me Im on ssi and they say i dont make enough to pay them back my civil rights have been violated because of economic status they SUCK again

The distribution point shown in this specific clip in front of the Books-a-Million in Baton Rouge was not manned by Louisiana Guard troops as stated in the header. The troops are from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Tennessee. The 278th was in Camp Shelby, MS when Gustav hit and were sent to Baton Rouge to man the distribution points. I was at this distribution point. The people there were very nice to us and genuinely thankful for the help.
