I wish I had this on DVD. It looks intriguing, I really like the staging. Well, at least we have a CD released by DG with same cast and conductor.

Very slow
-
@tosca31 It does- look it up on itunes and its there. Just type bryn terfel and simon keenlyside Don giovanni.

what a show this must have been

In most productions of Don Giovanni I've seen, the Don is portrayed as nearly completely emotionless. Whether he's shown to be a devilish psychopath or a bored playboy, the death of the Commendatore doesn't seem to shake him at all and his return in the end leaves him firm. Keenlyside's take on the Don is quite different and much more believable - his Don is visibly moved by the Commendatore's death, but shakes the emotion off as if it was something unworthy of him. Never seen this done better.

Perfect recording. Love it. And love this Leporello (my favourite character)

@Baritanist Tenors??? Terfel is a bass-baritone. I don't think that a microphone makes the difference...with or without, Terfel is a big singer, with a really wonderful voice, very rare, and is a fantastic actor too. Is very expressive, he speaks with his eyes and enchants with his voice. I can't wish more from a opera singer. Love him so much!

@Baritanist I'm a big hater of Terfel and I don't like Keenleyside either, but...tenors? XD They'e two baritones allright. I agree with your disgust.
-
it is a pity this cant be bought on dvd :-(
-
@Baritanist since when have Terfel and Keenlyside been tenors?
-
This must be a FRIGGIN JOKE. Two tenors with microphones starring were two basses are needed. PATHETIC ROFL.

This whole opening scene is actually my favorite musical number of the opera. The subsequent introduction of each of the 4 characters demonstrates the genius of both Da Ponte & Mozart. The whole thing is really epic if you think about it. Sort of encapsulates the entire opera. And there are many little musical moments in this intro that I literally listen to over and over on a daily basis.
-
are you sure - I think I have this on CD.
-
@NessaCosette 100% agreed. Terfel is made for this kind of role...not the Don.
-
@Gabba02 Yes, it does. On DG - Don Giovanni / Keenlyside, Salminen, Remigio, Heilmann, Terfel, Isokoski, D'Arcangelo, Pace, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Abbado. One of THE BEST!
-
Was für eine geile Besetzung ist DAS denn bitte??? :)
-
This opera should not be taken out of its original time period.
-
@NessaCosette yeah. Keenlyside, Terfel and Salminen are the shit!
-
could you please put here more?
-
i like how they fight with swords:-) such a dashing beau Simon plays
-
preferisco il silenzio
-
@Gabba02 where did you get it :-) ?
-
Excelent, excelent version! I love this =)

It's on CD
I think I have fallen in love with Keenlyside. He's my perfect Don. And Terfel is a perfect Leporello - I don't like when he sings the Don. It's not his type.
And Matti Salminen... oh, God, I love that man since I've heard my first Götter recording.
