The horizontal fall effect is caused by tidal movement through narrow inlets. The falls reverse on the change of tide.

when yu lnad on water is it going to be harder or softer than landing on land?

The lakes / lagoons are in the Kimberly region of North West Australia where the tides are 40ft. The nearest place of any size is Perth - about 1,500 miles away!
