Hello all. One of my co-workers gave me this horn for a couple of days to see what I could find out about it, so here it is! I figured one of the best ways to reach other collectors, and maybe find out some info, is to throw it on Youtube. Anyhow, so far I have gathered that it's a WABCO, Westinghouse Air Brake Company, model AA-2 Locomotive Horn. It is cast iron and pretty heavy--probably 20-25 lbs. It has 1/2" pipe thread ports in the rear and in the bottom as well. What we'd like to know is (1) when it was made, and (2) what it's worth. Any other miscellaneous info would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks for watching!

Oh, and by the way, it was 6 degrees below zero here in Minneapolis when I filmed this! BRRRRR!!!

  • From the nameplate logo, I'd say it is less than 10 years old.

MSG me for DETAILED info on this horn. You Tube won't let me post links.

  • @JohnBee76 Thanks for the info! I actually found a bunch of stuff on the horn after I posted this...another user was very helpful. Thanks though!

  • brrr... we had few days ago -30 degrees below zero. I live in finland :D

  • @EcoDiscElevators That is cold!! That was how cold the windchills were the day this was filmed. Yuck!

  • @kb3mzw thanks for the response! I saw that single horn on ebay, but I'm wondering if a dual-tone AA-2 is more valuable than 2 singles? Hmmmmm...

  • That's not really rare, it was used widely on the NJT commuter railroad on their locomotives

  • From the nameplate logo, I'd say it is less than 10 years old.

  • If you bought one new it's about $900-950.

  • I read WABCO came out with this horn about 1934 and it's still made today. It's been used mostly on push/pull cab cars, subway cars, and electric multiple unit passenger cars but rarely on locomotives. See the video, "Farewell to the P&W Bullets high-speed runby with nice AA-2 horn blasts and Doppler."

  • The guards on the front are stock and there main purpose is to keep build up of snow out of them.

  • The New Jersey Transit arrow 3 rail cars have AA-2 horns.
