The protest was led by Munkhbayar Tsetsgee, head of the Ongi river movement and winner of Goldman Prize, prestigious international environmental award.
The protesters had to go to hunger strike and State Great Khural or Parliament agreed to discuss the draft law. Eventually, the law was passed. About 300 mining licenses were revoked and same number of pristine environmental places and rivers and creeks are saved.
