Sure, yea I kind of wondered if that was a different state mandate because that didn't sound like anything taught in this state. Be safe and keep up good work.....

@deadmemory1986 True...I don't know how they were trained. In Wisconsin we are trained off the standard "shoot to stop the active threat". What I meant by the 21 ft rule is a man with a knife or other blunt/edged weapon within 21 feet is an active threat as they have the "delivery system" needed for the typical "use of force" policies in this country. As I always say...if you were a citizen would you let a guy with a knife come up on you...No, then why should the police. Thanks for the reply :)

@demonic87 I am a police officer and have been in a shooting. I did not shoot to kill the man, I shot to stop him from continuing his active threat. He did not die.

@Gtrplyr1 The force option continuum tells police you meet an active threat with equal force or one step greater, you do not "bring a knife to a gun fight, but you do bring a gun to a knife fight". Remember, police are not out to "fight fair"...they are out to make sure they go home. A man within 21 feet holding a knife is an active threat...what if the taser failed? That officer could be dead.
