Staff Sgt Sandra Lee, US Army Reserves

On October 13th, 2009, to kick off a national campaign to educate the public about a new Department of Defense study that says 1 in 3 women in the military are raped, Staff. Sgt. Sandra Lee comes forward for the first time to announce to the public that she had been raped twice while deployed to Iraq. A press conference was held by the Times Sq. Recruiting station, and then a march was conducted.

I'm Han Chinese myself but im a male. Man once I become officer in the Army and if I ever hear anything like this happen, I'll be sure to not let it go unspoken.

Sandra is obviously highly intelligent and sincere. As an ethnic Chinese she is typically petite and one can imagine that she had little chance to defend herself against, from what she says, two burly rapists. That 1 in 3 servicewomen suffer such attacks is horrifying. If this incredible statistic is based on official complaints then the incidence of rape in the military must, be even worse, as she says that the vast majority of victims keep their mouths shut, but even one case is far too much.

I saw an interview with Sandra and found this video via google I never knew rape in the military was this common. I can't tell you how angry I am with the guy who did this to you. I won't publicly state what I think should happened to him but it wouldn't be life in prison. Scumbags like him shouldn't be allowed to breathe the air that you and I breathe.

As we heard 1 in 3 women in the Army are raped, but as statistics are usually farer from reality than what we can figure, things are in fact worse than what the surface suggests. Any women is a potential victim simply because we're women,. But when we, as victims in fact or victims to be, break the wall of our silence, we make it clear to the world that it's their problem too and not only ours, exclusively.
