Or am I forgetting all the hospitals, schools, community shelters and humanitarian efforts that atheists have made through history? (crickets) Yep. No wonder atheists are the least trusted group.

1) Then theism have any responsibility for the killings of every theistic religion; 2) There are atheistic and non-theistic religions (raelism, buddhism, unitarian universalism, ...); 3) Theists and deists can be anti-religious (Voltaire,Thomas Paine,Hattrack); 4) Pinochet, for instance, was a catholic communist; 5) There's a Muslim Communist Party and there was a Muslim Socialist Committee of Kazan; 6) I can't confirm most of those quotes you gave (what are the sources?).

@MatsPT First of all. Atheism can both mean lack of belief in god or the stance that "God does not exist". No one's denying the fact that marxists are atheists. But that is completely irrelevant. The question is, did they kill BECAUSE of their atheism? The answer is no. They did it because of their quasi-religion called Marxism. They persecuted theists to preserve their ideology because the two doctrines are incompatible. Being an atheist doesn't mean you're necessarily an anti-theist.

Communists killed over 20 million people in little less than 100 years. By comparison that is far more than any religious conflicts in a 1000 year time span.

I love how atheists love to compare religion to the killings of people. Although I believe that to be true, when it comes to communists killing people they always are like atheists have nothing to do with it. Although they were more political in nature, the atheists still have some sort of responsibility in a way. Also Hitler didn't kill in the name of God, but Fascism.
