I made this as a project for latin class. It's a comparison between O brother where art thou and a 1997 movie of the Odyssey all to the tune of man of constant sorrow by the soggy bottom boys

  • I think God resembles Poseidon because, like, throughout the movie Everett makes it pretty clear that he doubts God. Right before the flood that saved him, Everett prayed and accepted God. Just a thought =). That's always what I got from it, anyway.

But Idk what the bouty hunter's deal is, he's gotta be somebody important. He just has that menacing air about him and when ever he appears, there's always fire in his eyes.

Great movie anyway. One of my favorites.

  • Greek gods hold very little resemblence to the God of christianity, because greek gods are not inherantly good or evil, they are human-like, with human loyalties, personalities and flaws.

In the case of the Odyssey Poseidon would be more relatable to Satan or the Devil as Poseiden does not like Odysseous and ties to kill and hinder him (it is because of Poseiden's disfavor that Odysseous' journy takes 20 years instead of a few months).

  • Aeolus master of winds was the one who gave them the bag of winds. I believe the crew opens the bag symbolizing their ignorance and greed. Not sure who cautions them from opening it, other than Odysseus and Aeolus.

  • Tommy and George symbolize odysseus' foolish crew i think

  • Ya the Odyssey Movie skipped several of Odysseus's adventures including the sirons and the laestrygonians

  • DUDE SO COOL

  • Great job!

  • Thanks for sharing your project. Odysseus upsets Poseidon because Odysseus is too proud to admit that the Trojan Horse plan would have failed without Poseidon's sea monster eating the soothsayer. The soothsayer was trying to tell the citizens of Troy that the horse was a trap. They didn't listen and Oddyseus surprised the Trojans and didn't give any credit to Poseidon. It then takes 20 years for Odysseus to learn his lesson and to not be as proud as he was when he was young..

  • Great job!

  • This is awesome, thanks for makin & postin it.

  • @OoryanoO42 in the middle of the movie they meet up with the black guy who sold his soul. When they ask him what the devil looks like he responds that he was a white man with blackened eyes (sunglasses) and has a hell hound (the blood hound). Also through out the movie when the sherif is shown there is fire reflecting of his glasses kind of like the flames in hell

  • @kingj2144 Poseidon was mad at Odysseus because the cyclops was Poseidon's son and Odysseus blinded him so Poseidon wanted revenge

  • thanks!! you just saved my ass in world lit!!!

  • @kingj2144

That's true. Your way does make more sense. It just looks to me that the Christian God plays a bigger role. Maybe that's just because it's set in the deep south, I don't konw lol.
