In the states you learn this stuff by getting screamed at; I bet both approaches are equally affective considering that both the Royal Navy sailors and USN sailors know how to salute.

Naval traditions (tarred hands etc) meant salute palm in, short way up and down - the army's method (which applies to raf, equally) would be dangerous in cramped conditions between decks. Bootnecks (RM) follow army instructions on land, and naval instructions when serving in a ship

I'm an Australian Army Cadet and we were taught to the the 'Palm Out' Salute?
Does that mean that the Australian Army does the 'Palm Out' Salute too...
I figured as Australia is part of the Commonwealth, it followed the British Army so which salute does the British Army use???

I wasn't aware British Army soldiers and The Royal Marines salute differently.
SAS Are Army, Royal Marine Commandos Are a division within the Royal Navy
