Starting Position
• Sit on a bench or chair with perfect posture, and your feet straight ahead and flat on the floor
• Place your right arm behind your body and lower your right shoulder
Procedure
• Tuck your chin (give yourself a double chin) and point it toward your left shoulder
• Lift your left hand over the top of your head and place it by your right ear
• Gently lower your chin toward your left shoulder until a stretch is felt on the right side of the base of the neck, slightly posterior to the midline
• Hold for the prescribed time
Coaching Cues
• Maintain good posture throughout stretch
• Stretch only to the point of "slight" discomfort
Where You Should Feel It
• A stretch of the levator scapulae, the base of the neck slightly posterior to midline
