Lessons I learned along the way in transforming my Corian kitchen counters to faux granite via Giani mineral paint kits.

  • i must say, that new back splash...that's HOT! very nice!

  • @jumpman138 Thanks! We got the tiles at Home Depot—stick and peel.

  • I was sent a kit by Giani to scuff up the shiny final coat and redo, but haven't had the heart yet (it means removing all the appliances and not using the kitchen for several days while the stinky last coat dries). Meanwhile we suddenly have holes in the surface by the sink area—not sure if the issue is water or damage from heavy/pointy objects but I'll have to deal with it soon. The little holes keep growing and are obvious. I still like the black surface, but this isn't working for us overall.

  • Amazing! What kind of backsplash is that you used? It all look sgreat :-)

  • @mrsJLR87 We used stainless steel peel & stick tiles for the backsplash. A year later they've held up pretty well, but I notice some are popping off a little. I press them back on but they're not solidly against the wall.

  • Any comments on Modern Master vs Giani?

  • @frank299 Sorry don't know what Modern Master is. All I can say is that the Giani people have been very nice and responsive and seem to be continuously improving their product. I'm still dealing with the top coat streak situation though. Probably have to do one more go-round....

  • Awesome, thanks

  • So how is the countertop holding up now? I am really thinking about doing this. It is cheaper than the Rustoleum countertop kit. I think your counters and backsplash look great!

  • @TannersFriendo Thank you so much for being honest about this whole procedure. Blessings to you - because I was going to paint my kitchen counter (it has an awful mark in it ) but now I will continue to try and persuade 'my better half' to just replace the countertop instead. If you had not remarked about the problems with the wear from day to day use - I would have proceeded down this path. Btw - I think you did a fabulous job! Kudos to you for your effort!

  • Always remove the tape when the paint is still wet. It will save the rubbery paint from peeling. Don't let it dry. If there is a long drying time between coats or paints, remove the tape and re-tape before beginning again once the paint is dry. Sorry for the extra taping but that is what it takes.

  • at 2:42 you have to use the 3m gold tape

at 4:17 use the schotch bride its some sanding material it wurks great

    but you kitchen looks awsesome

  • I love this product! I had so may compliments from friends and family visited our kitchen. One thing though, it can peel or get scratched easily even with the top coat. I suggest using Epoxy clear coating!
