@ChiltonFowler2001 Western aesthetic vantage point? she was born in the west, educated in the west what other vantage point would she have?
"Ethnic Art" --do you mean decorative arts? Just because art makes you think doesn't make it "western".
Are the cubist like Piccasso "Ethnic" because they incorporated an African aesthetic?
some people call quilting "women's art" but if someone quilted condoms together it wouldn't be "women's art" because it makes you "think"?

It is still very clever, but it will never be classified as "Ethnic Art" because it still makes room for a Western aesthetic vantage point. Walker's art keeps the powers in place to their delight. "No Guilt" "Fat Free".

Knowing the artist and her works. She is still making work from a Western point of reference. Making artworks of people who are not western in origin and descend from traditions of art that are not western. It appeals to the Western notion that non-white is still an "exotic decoration".

She is examining a lived physical and continued psychological pathology in our history-- the brutal atrocities of slavery. Walker's commentary in that realm is what makes her work brilliant. The psychotic response to slavery is in many ways what her work is about.
