@avp927 High end Pearl drums are made from North American maple/birch and African Mahogany. They are NOT cheap material. Also, Pearl isn't exactly a low-cost brand. The reference kits are some of the most expensive retail kits on the market. DW is a great brand as well, but I wouldn't necessarily consider them to be of better quality. More options? Yes, but same quality.

honestly, i don't really like pearl drums. I think they sound a tad unprofessional and a lot of their series are made of fairly cheap material. If you have a low budget or want to spend more money on cymbals, pearl is the way to go. But if you want to make an investment and want good quality as well as great sounding drums, DW is the way to go. No question. This is just however my opinion.

@cymbalfusion are there any Reference kits with a 16in floor tom? a long with the hanging tom?
