Based on this vid, the course doesn't seem very gnarly, didn't see any jumps or nasty rocks so I guess a hardtail would be fine.

Go for it, bro! Just train before you race and make sure your diet is full of carbs.

@milzeh riding doesn't give you the muscles that you want or that those racers have what gives them their muscles is their training or their workout routines or they are juicin' on some 'roids
I'm no expert, sorry if my common sense is misleading me, but I get the impression that hard tails are more maneuverable & less pedal-energy dispelling. I saw quite a few of them.
