they need to be adjusted. Then theres a pin you screw. kinda similar to adjusting drum brakes on a car. nowadays newer busses are having automatic slack adjusters so if you dont know what your doing you could screw stuff up. Take your time, there is no time limit. cover everything, touch and pull on everything.
the examiner is not going to ask anything, that your right about. You must say though, simply U-bolts, hangers and leaf springs are not broken and secure. Thats safety. You will be put out of service with more than 1 leaf spring broken. as far as slack adjusters i believe you need to be certified to be allowed by law to adjust. I did get certified but really just looking to drive. There is a tool that allows you to pull the slack adjuster and if it moves more than an inch i believe
First of all, no examiner ever asks for all that technical information, we are not mechanics. Slack adjusters, forget it. Brake lining, forget it. U-bolt, forget, steering linkage, forget it, cottage keys, forget it, chambers, forget it, linings, forget it. In reality, if you are lucky, you are only given 5 minutes to check your whole bus over, really quick. On the road test, you do not do this on the drivers side due to traffic.
great..
