The Madusa Stunt

The infamous stunt where Madusa dumps the WWF Women's Championship (the real title, too) in a trash bin at the 18th December, 1995 edition of WCW Monday Night Nitro.

The guy on the far left (from our point of view) doesn't really care but look at Bobby "The Brain" Heenan (the man on our right) and Steve McMichael (the man in the middle) and look at their reactions. That shows you how big it was back then. Bobby looks like he's been shocked too and McMichael is both shocked and awed at the proximity of the title belt and what just happened.

The commentators had no idea that this was going to happen.

Listen at the 7 second mark very closely:
Heenan: "What the (inaudible)hell (pronounced h) are you doing here?Heenan does nothing but stare at Madusa and McMichael looks confused but also very curious.

When Madusa brings out the title belt, even the guy on the left goes "woah" When she actually drops it, McMichael is so much in shock that he mucks up his words: "Madusa, the WWF Women's championship in the belt right here..." There's a botch right there.

Afterwards McMichael picks up the championship while Heenan looks over his shoulder while the guy on the left, who never really cared that much in the first place just goes on like nothing happened and the rest quickly pull themselves back to the broadcast. If it weren't for that guy on the left, they would probably have been incapable of moving on with the show for at least a minute or so.

This was really a moment.

Ironically, if this stunt never happened, there may have never been the Montreal Screwjob, sicne this stunt meant that Vince couldn't rule out anything when it come to WCW. Then again, it may still have happened.
