@DaBhaalspawn Static makiwara are indeed very tough on your body. I'm not saying there are no benefits to that kind of training, but for myself, I indeed try to stay away from them for exact the reasons you mention, too. A flexible board plank makiwara works a lot better for me.

@slingman6 Only if you do it with a certain harshness towards yourself. If your blows are hard, but in balance, it actually is a delightfull training, in my experience.

@VoxVishin However, injury is the best cure there is for a big ego ! :-)

@VoxVishin Next to hard punching, also try to keep it fluid and wholosome. On youtube you can find lots of videos of people who seem to think that makiwara is only about hitting hard...but that's only 10% of the training! Makiwara training is also about hitting healthy. If one starts to hard when one is not ready for it, the 'beng' may impress your girlfriend, but you Qi cannot flow and you actually train bad technique that can result in injury. Jobbe

@VoxVishin @samminutes Yes but be carefull: in brick walls you will sometimes dislocate a part of the wall because of the repetitive tremors of the makiwara. Concrete, or some wood walls are okay, but for serious makiwara training in combination with brick walls its better to somehow fix the plank into the floor,

@VoxVishin You have 2 options. First Makiwara type (into the earth). Buy a long wooden plank (about 2m50) and just bury it.
The second solution is to fix the makiwara like the second photo. Buy a long wooden plank ( just for your size, about 1m20 ?) and a second which is smaller and thicker (about 10cm). Fixe the smaller piece to the wall at 2cm of the floor, screw the long wooden plank to the little part and you have a good makiwara !
