  • Very little effect up until necking - although the square cross section corners should be slightly rounded to avoid stress concentrations. After necking, final failure may vary, although I do not know if it has been studied (but I am sure there is some old paper on it).

  • I found this visual to be very informative and easy to understand.

  • Given two tensile specimens with the same gauge cross sectional area, however one area is round and the other is rectangular/square; how would the shape of the area affect the yield, tensile and elongation results from a tensile test?

  • thank you sir

  • ah man if only u was my lecturer! :( thanks for the vid, a million times better then our lecturer.

    Thanks agian!

  • useful vid..thanks a lot
