One of the four areas NNSA is highlighting at this year's General Conference is preventing nuclear smuggling, which is the mission of the Office of International Material Protection and Cooperation.
The program is divided into the First Line of Defense, which implements physical security upgrades at sites in Russia and the former Soviet Union, and the Second Line of Defense, which strengthens the capability of foreign governments to deter, detect, and interdict illicit trafficking in nuclear and other radioactive materials across international borders and through the global maritime shipping system.
