MUST READ: A through screen-cast showing four hidden functions on your Mac including Spaces, Exposé, Speech Recognition, and "Find" in Safari. This isn't my real voice, what I did was type up what I wanted to say, have the computer speak it, record that, and match it to the video. Cool right? You may already know these functions so please don't bug me about it.

Hey everyone! This is Cosmo Scharf for Blosmo.com and today I'm going to be showing you guys four hidden functions slash applications on your Mac that are very useful. When I say hidden, I dont mean the applications are kept a secret, just something that you have to figure out for yourself. The four functions Im going to show you are Spaces, Exposé, Speech Recognition, and Find in Safari. If you like this video, I encourage you to chek out the blog at Blosmo.com and subscribe to the RSS. Im always looking for new writers for the site so feel free to apply. The links will be over here.
Spaces is an application for Leopard that creates four separate windows on your computer to reduce desktop clutter and keep your windows organized. It keeps all your files in the same place on your desktop but a new space to work in with diferent applications open. To enable it, open up System Preferences and click on Exposé&Spaces in the top row under Personal. Click on enable spaces. You can also add or subtract the amount of rows and columns you want. The limit is sixteen spaces. When youre done open up the application spaces and youll see different windows with each application open. Here, you can drag each application into a different space. Like this. To switch between spaces without the actual application open, hit command and an arrow key. The dirrection of the arrow key tells your computer which space you want to move to. You can also drag an application or window and hold it against a side of the screen to bring it into a new space. Pretty useful, right?
Expo-zay is a setting on the Mac that makes the four corners of your screen come to life. You can set each corner of the screen to do a specific task like showing dashboard simply by putting your mouse around the corner. To set it up, open system preferences, and click on Expo-zay and spaces in the top row. Choose what you want each corner to do from the drop down menu on the top and youre all set. My top left corner brings up all my windows open, the top right shows dashboard, the bottom right sleeps the display, and the bottom left corner shows the desktop.
Speech recognition lets you control many aspects of your mac with your voice. Its relatively useless unless youre blind, but cool nonetheless. Open up system preferences and click on speech in the bottom right. Turn Speakable Items on and youll see a little blue circle pop up on your screen. This allows you to use speech recognition and you can drag it around your desktop. To use it, hold down the escape button and say a command like what time is it? When you turn speech recognition on, all your bookmarks in Safari get tagged and you enter any of those websites by saying the name of of it. Blosmo. To see a full list of the commands you can say, click on the arrow on the bottom of the circle and click open speech commands window.
Find is a function in Safari that allows you to search for a specific word or phrase within the webpage. Its incredibly useful if the page is very long and you cant find it. Just hit command f and type in what you want to look for. Your phrase will show up highlighted in yellow.
