i used stripes of a kitchen towel - had nothing else

What happend if the level of fuel goes off...?? the flame can go inside the tubes and explode or something dangerous?

If he did that he'd have a major disaster on his hands. The flame would find it's way down that hole, igniting the fuel, and possibly sending shards of glass everywhere.

I think you need to poke a hole in the lid to allow some air to get in there...
