question.... for these type of filters how often to i replace the foam, white stuff and black stuff. sorry im new so thats why im calling it "stuff", as for the foam i heard you dont rinse in out in straight tap water cause it will kill the good bacteria, i guess im suppose to rinse it out with the water from the tank. if you could explain it really to me or even make a video
@sao68053 you should replace the carbon(black stuff) ever 4-6 months as it will start to release crap back into the water after a while. The white stuff is bio media, I dont replace this, as it houses most of the beneficial bacteria. As for the foam I just rinse it in tank water during water changes. You should replace it every so often too. But its nit a huge concern. Just never replace all the media at once. Keep the impeller clean and you will have no problems with this filter. :)
Nice review :) canister man myself so all these little filters dont seem to pull it off for me but this one seems great!
as for the sand why not cut the tube and use a heavy sand? I have sand in a tank with 2FX5s and in another tank with 2x 2217s with cichlids who love to dig the sand all around but its never in my filters, Do you think this would be the same case for the HOB? or does it depend on having a longer intake?
@donkeykong919 yeah I'm all about canisters now as well, for my tank the cichlids kind of kick up alot of sand, which in turn got sucked up into the impeller. I think that maybe taking off a sectiion or cutting shorter could have helped for sure. thanks for the comment!!
