The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking university teams for a May 2010 virtual manufacturing automation competition that it is cosponsoring with IEEE and Georgia Tech. The deadline for applications is February 15.
Using an inexpensive computer gaming engine, teams develop a simulation of a robot picking up boxes of various sizes and weights and placing them on a pallet for shipping.
This simulation uses the competition computer tools including an open source robot simulator called USARSim.
Winners will see their simulation run on a robot at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation 2010 in Anchorage, Alaska.
