  • Man, how great is Pete..........He comes out of retirement, at 37 years old, rusty, not playing any tournaments (other than a few seniors events and a couple exhibitions), and goes out and soundly beats a current touring pro. Yes, Haas is past his prime, but still on the ATP tour, mixing it up with the best players in the world, currently. He had Federer on the ropes at the French, and had some other great results over the past few years. And here he gets manhandled by The Pistol. Beauty.......

  • Haha, I love Pete but besides this being an exhibition match Haas was not fully fit the week of this tournament and he was not playing near 100%. Haas had a real match the next evening which I attended and he played with markedly more effort in that one.

Still, I agree, it's impressive stuff from Pete. He himself has said that he feels he can still compete with the top guys in a match or two, but the problem for him would be maintaining that level over the course of an entire tournament.

  • @DexterHaven49 This was an exhibition match which Pete won in straight sets against a Haas who wasn't trying very hard because he was coming back from injury and had an actual in-competition match to play later in the tournament. You didn't miss a thing. :D

  • @zaitesushion No, it was not an assumption. It was a common-sense inference. Pete must have made some shots worthy of this gesture, which are conspicuously absent. Think. It's like showing Don Rickles laugh at a joke by Paul Lynde, but without Paul's joke! Annoying!

  • look here everyone, anyone can be in shape for one match. how did sampras feel the next day? im not impressed by one and done....

  • Yea, I'm sure Tommy could have played better, but I know that he probably didn't want to lose either. There's that sense of pride, especially playing in front of a live audience. As far as Pete questioning his ability to play day in and day out with the top guys, of course it would be tough. He's 38,like me :-). Some of my students who are playing D1 tennis tell me that I should go play some "Open's" since I do well against them. I tell them that I'm good for one match, not multiple matches :-)
