And we're off!
We motored under the 17th Street Causeway when the bridge opened at noon. Only 45 minutes later we turned off the engine. Not much speed just four to five knots most of the time -- but we're sailing. Ft. Lauderdale, Florida is still in sight, and we made a few phone calls to use the prepaid minutes on the cell phone. We've tacked once because the wind changed to northeasterly. It was expected to move clockwise over the next couple of days, which was good for our purposes.

  • I've watched the whole crossing before, and now I'm watching it again. I think it's funny I don't even know how to sail really, but I've done it before, and love it. After I get out of college I just might buy a small boat to learn, then live on 30-40 footer. Shouldn't be too hard, I live in Mobile, AL; I'm practically in the water already! Your voyage is inspiring, Thx :)

  • The beginning of a 25-day passage from Fort Lauderdale to Flores in the Azores.
