@molokaicreeper The Silver Bridge is on the US 35 corridor, which was in the pre-interstate days, and still to a lesser degree today, a major corridor between Columbus, Ohio and Charleston, WV. It attracted a lot of truck traffic, which got heavier as the decades progressed.
The explanation in 2:55 is great. Also when a bridge is made an attraction by being painted silver, more people will travel through it and the Hi Carpenter bridge did not have that reputation so less people went through it. With time, the heavier use on the Silver Bridge was one of the factors it deteriorated more than the Hi Carpenter bridge (aka St Marys Bridge).
