Indeed you are right on something, liars do look on that direction, BUT, they do it because they are using creative thinking, which can also be used for answering questions not prepared beforehand, specially when you try to explain something, graps a concept or be polite. "It doesn´t mean that those people are smarter" Liars look in that direction too, but they take more time and tend to make slightly different movements with the eyes.

Heh, our environment has something to do with that too. For instance, my lil 1 year old niece knows how to turn on the computer, how to put the CD into the CD tray correctly (shiny side down), she knows which bone in the skeleton goes to which body part. In comparison to a kid who's been born pre computers and cell phones. Kids are like sponges, they suck up what they're subjected to thus the brain keeps on evolving to fit new information and process it. It's quite fascinating.
