I've heard some of Vestal Claret but it was mostly the songs that would become Hour of 13 ones.

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that the concepts were initially created for V.C. but used in Hour of 13. No, in the sense that musically they are very different.

I think it was a matter of realising the concepts he'd written in a different outfit and then realising their original vision later on. Have you heard Vestal Claret?

Despite being almost the same, lyrically both Hour of 13's debut and Vestal Claret's debut are different animals. Still waiting on the band version of V.C.'s album.

So V.C. was kind of like a "prototype" version of Hour of 13?

Vestal Claret was similar in concept to HO13, in that Phil took VC lyrics and concepts and used them for HO13's debut album. Hence, the Vestal Claret debut was those lyrics/ideas as they were originally intended. I think the concepts for each band have diverged since.

Not to mention also that musically they are very different.

Consistent as far as being on every album. But he's quit the band & then come back a few times.
