Maxpedition has come out with something quite a bit different... a messenger bag. This video looks at the Larkspur, the smaller of the two they came out with. Check it out at http://www.maxpedition.com. Two part video because it ran over 10 minutes and I spliced it in half. Please check out Part 2 also.

  • Hey Ros I need a bag for my iPad do you think an iPad will fit in a versa jumbo?

  • @ROADDAWGTACTICAL Hiya Roaddawg. I don't have an iPad but used a picture frame of the same size. :) It does fit in the Jumbo. Right to the top but storm cover goes over and flap snaps no prob. Could fit in rear zipper too but no protection there. I'd say the Jumbo is Go for the iPad.

  • How would you compare this with the 5.11 Rush Messenger Bag?

  • @tengc I've not seen a 5.11 Rush in person but do like the styling of it. On the other hand, I don't prefer all of the PALS webbing on the outside of the bag. The Larkspur is humungorous and kind of like a big bucket. Sorry I can't be of any help but I do like the look of that Rush.

  • @RoscoeBa I need a bag that is water proof, but I need something a little smaller than this bag you are reviewing. Can you recommend a slightly smaller bag I could get that has similar features as the Maxpedition Larkspur Messenger Bag?

  • @blueBlackpurple Maybe you can go over and look at Hazard4's messenger bags. They have the MOD that may suit you. Or, the MaxPed Mongo?

  • Okay, I bought mine about a month ago, took it to Europe with me and must say that it is a fine travel bag.

Excellent carry on bag; no problems finding space for it on the aircraft or buses - never a second look from TSA or other security types and able to handle the rigors of travel.

Feels comfortable even after a long day of walking and souvenir hunting. I have quite a few bags from Maxpedition and have yet to be let down by any of them.

  • @RoscoeBa I like the Rush because of all the pockets. With it, I wouldn't have to buy organizers, unlike the Larkspur. But, I like the way Maxpedition overbuilds their products. I think the Larkspur is more water resistant than the Rush. Also, I like way the strap of the Larkspur goes all the way to the bottom of the bag. It'll be more robust that way, unlike the Rush whose straps go only until the sides of the bag. If the Rush had the same water proofness of the Maxpedition... best of 2 worlds.

  • great review I like that you measure with tape right there instead of listing off stats
