Kobe Bryant and Ricky Rubio traded friendly barbs after the Lakers' 106-101 win over the Timberwolves in Minnesota Sunday night, with the Spanish point guard promising that the U.S. would win a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics.

In a video posted by Marca.com (via Hoopshype), Bryant overheard Rubio and Pau Gasol—a teammate of Bryant's on the Lakers, but a teammate of Rubio's on Spain—speaking in Spanish about the Olympics.

"You talking about London?," Bryant asked Gasol and Rubio as he passed them in the hallway outside the Target Center locker rooms.

"Oh yeah," Gasol responded.

Rubio then asked Bryant, "You're gonna be there?"

Of course, Bryant said.

"You know you're getting the silver medal. You know that," Rubio needled.

Responded Bryant: "S--- . I'm taking bets! ... If I win I get the keys of Barcelona."

"I bet what you want," Rubio said.

  • this will be sick if calderon plays point guard rubio plays shooting guard ibaka plays small forward marc plays power forward and pau plays center

  • The motivation increases when you have the chance to beat the best team.

Spain beating Usa would be a game to remember.

  • USA is clearly the best team in the world, but when did USA face a team with 2 All-Star players, 1 potential All-Star, one of the best defensive players on the paint and a PG who's ranking #3rd in Assists on the league?

If Spain was a serious rival in Beijing for the best team in the world, in London they should be even better

  • U are forgetting other teams such as Argentina, Brazil, and other European teams.

  • It will be funny see Rubio against Love.

  • @awaylabel They came pretty damn close last olympics. And that was without their starting point guard. And i thought USA played as well as they could of.

  • Its gonna be a good game. Also with the line being moved back to nba range, I actually think that benefits spain. USA feasted on the close three point line, but overall i would favor the shooters on Spain overall with the line being moved back.

  • @Murphs56 Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Durant, Dwight, DRose, CP3, Carmelo Anthony, KLove, Blake Griffin, Chris Bosh and finally Westbrook OR DWill = GOLD

  • @hisaoawesome D Howard is NBA first team Defense every year. He's a beast, he takes Marc out of the game for sure. Pau is good off the pass inside but hes a jump shooter really, and there's where chandler shines in defending. I think honestly they cancel each other out from an unbiased prospective. Its gonna be up to the guards and forwards and there I think without a doubt nobody's as deep as team USA. Spain will be a hard out for sure and anything can happen is one game.

  • Spain will have the best front court at the Olympics
