Akban academy headmaster, Yossi Sheriff, http://www.akban.org/about/sheriff.php talks about applying the Soto Jodan Yuke in Bujinkan Taijutsu kata for sparring situations. An Akban-wiki tutorial
1. Feeling the distance
2. Protecting the face
3. Proper stance and movement
4. Attacking while the opponent approaches
5. Using kicks to control distance
6. Seoe
7. Kata guruma
8. Waki gatame
9. Ura oni kudaki
In AKBAN we train the way we like, completely absorbing ourselves in Ninjutsu while fearlessly researching. We don't care about politics, political values, belt systems or Mc-dojos -- what matters to us is dojo time, heart and earth, that's it: One principle, two words: "No shortcuts"

Checking the hand and putting your arm in front of your face and dropping a level will do nothing to protect you from a Thai Round house to the legs, head or your ribs. You might get away with the first check, but not the second, because your timing and speed has would already have been studied. You are likely to suffer broken ribs and kicked off balance. You are better off staying out of your opponents range, learning to use fakes, feints and be explosive off your rear leg to close the gap.

@iApna We agree on all things my friend. If you check even a humble jab, cross combination you might find many problems with that too.
Wether the technique is good or not depends on situation, timing and surprise.

good vid....I like how he runs a realistic scenario. I've been boxing since the age of 7, and when I watch some youtube Martial Arts vids with the various blocks I can't help laughing quietly to myself thinking that won't work on me.
This vid is different, coz he's countering exactly how I would if I was the other guy. He shows what could really happen against an opponent fighting on instinct, someone who see's defensive holes and attacks.
Thanks for the vid, informative and realistic.

@tuikalavo Thanks. We treat sparring with caution... If these kind of perspective interests you, you can search youTube for "Five Ninjutsu techniques against collar tie"
