If been born to fucking early.. srsly.. screw this, is wish i lived in a world like this. you might say our time if great.. ok, but that time is even more great. I just feel it with every cell in my body that I belong in such a place.. but Iam stuck here... life kinda sucks sometimes :-/

@1DarkMasK1 I get your point. No ou never said that, but I did. As you said, the novels are from the 80's and by that time ppl though it could be that way in 2010. but It didn't turned out that way. My definiton of cyberpunk consists of High Technology, Mega Corps and Hackers. and because of that, I don't consider our time as Cyberpunk since there is still a lot missing and thats way I said we're merely in the beginning. But since this isn't a discussion platform,we should leave it at this point

If you made a movie about 2040 with all fancy architecture, flying cars, robots, augmetations etc...

IT WOULDNT BE A CYBERPUNK

It would just be yet another dystopia you need to have low life factor in it.

And besides all those beutiful futuristic architecture and stuff like that from cyberpunk those belong to the CEOS and MEGACORPS normal class lives in wooden shacks

Scanner darkly is a cyberpunk film and it is set 7 years from 2006 that makes it in 2013.

I have never seen that cyberpunk should be in 2040.

Bear in mind that most cyberpunk novels were written in 80's so 2012 = near future.

@1DarkMasK1 No, I don't because what I understand of Cyberpunk is a future like it would be in 2040, considering our current state of the (tech) art. You said robots, high tech weapons. I have to agree, but we are talking about different worlds. It's like comparing 1400 ad and 2012 because they had ships and boots already in 14th c. but you can't compare them. Let's just say we are in the very early begining of the real CP Era.

Virtual worlds check Internet check Hackers and data pirates check robots check cyberculture check new high tech weapons and riot control check corporations owning politicians and police check spying on people check regulating the internet check (sopa/acta) which was a law that was pushed solely by mutli million dollar coroporation called UMG then we also have wars, cyber revolutionaries (anonymous), cyberwarfare etc... So you dont consider this cyberpunk?
