You don't nees a Time Capsule for making continuous backups, the Time Machine software that comes with MacOS X is enough. Time Capsule is a piece of shit, usually dies after 18 months operation.

If I let others use it as a router for the internet, can I use it to back up my stuff and keep privacy, and ensure they don't use it mistakenly or on purpose to back up their things?

I have a time capsule and I love it. I am a SOHO and therefore I use it to back up my work. It does not seem to interfere with internet and depends on how much it needs to backup. It can take as much as one hour or as little as few minutes.

i have a few questions about the time capsule.

while backing up will it interfere with my internet connection?

This works so well, I've been using it since Leopard beta, backing up my Macbook wirelessly.
Real easy to restore a file.
I recommend a Macbook or iMac to anyone looking to "switch"...besides you can install your Windows license on your macbook or iMac while you take a few weeks to figure out that UNIX (OS X) is superior.
get a mac. it'll save you headaches for years to come.
