When he says "I don't over do it" and "I try to be reasonable when I take the literal approach," I say, "Liar!" For example, he takes "Thou shalt not kill" and says "Look, the Bible says you aren't to kill. Yet in other places we see God telling people to kill, so the Bible contradicts itself." McK is over doing it and he knows full well he is 1) not looking at the context (i.e., ten generalized rules) and 2) he's taking it out of context and lining it up in an incorrect context. Liar.
@MrPsychedelia101 Specialized knowledge is required to understand the bible? Then shouldn't Christians pursue in reading the whole bible rather than being preached passages or talk about specifis during church? Shouldn't those who know most about the bible enlighten those who misunderstand (which would categorize most Christians)? Christians always say atheists take passages out of context, but no one can disprove the example? That is complete and utter ignorance and arrogance.
You can find the apparent "contradictions" in the other ancient and modern historical documents. This is one of many examples were atheists and secular historians apply Double standards to biblical text.
The major reason for these so-called "contradictions" is decontextualization, that is a result of materialist predjudice and gross misunderstanding of the Bible itself.People tend read the bible as a newspapers, ignoring the social and cultural context of the ancient world, not to mention the broad range of specialized knowlege required for the understanding the Bible.
