    I remember this song when I was young, and that's 50 years ago. Belafonte is 85 now, and still performing. What an amazing, wonderful man. A humanitarian par excellence.

    Yes its true he has made some pretty outlandish political statements as of late. But nobody can deny that he is one of the most amazing performers of all time. He introduced calypso music to the US and has sung some pretty iconic songs. His political views don't detract from his artisitc gifts

    My father was a Merchant Marine the spittin' image of Harry, and wherever he went people asked for his autograph. I could still see the smile on dad's face as he tried to convince them that he was not Harry Belafonte. as time went on people started telling me I looked like Shari Belafonte...I definitely had her forehead, I think I grew into it though..lol. Mr. Belafonte was and is a prize to the civil rights movement and a true humanitarian. May God continue to bless him and his family.
