With about 5 minutes left in the 3rd, the Devils ice the game. Jeff Friesen gets the puck to Jamie Langenbrunner at center ice, who flips a pass onto to the stick of Joe Nieuwendyk who roofs a backhander past Steve Shields to give the Devils a 4-2 lead, which they would hold for a win by the same score, and take a 2-0 series lead to Boston!

Stars got ripped off trading their second line to Jersey for Jason Arnott. Actually, I kinda wonder the wisdom of trading Iginla to the Flames to get Nieuwendyk in the first place.

Joe Nieuwendyk was an excellent player for every team he played with. he could skate like the wind, he had excellent hands, and his faceoff skills were second to none! Nieuwendyk was a star!
