Taken from the original Chess 45, this track includes the final 13 seconds that have been missing from all the reissues of 'Strange Feeling'. Apparantly the master damaged or lost some point, Pookie thought it might be interesting to post the original single version. Pookie has always said that nobody finishes a song like Billy. Apologies for the record wear, it's 47 years old!!

  • Didn't he die REALLY young, from complications of diabetes, or something?

  • @shmuli9 billy died in an auto accident jan. 1970 when the front wheels of his new thunderbird sheared off from defects and crashed into the nuese river. 3 members of his band also died. interstate 95, north carolina. billy was 31 or 32 years old.

  • One of my favourite tracks of all time. Can anyone confirm who the backing singers were?-I've read it was the Vandellas

  • funny how these things go around. i have been told this was the Jewels backing Billy, one of whom was his cousin. but in talking with her she said no. then i heard as you did the vandellas, but it was the early group martha reeves was part of, the fascinations. the real story is it was the early gems. at that time they would have been theresa washam, bertha watts, dorothy huckabee, and jessica collins. minnie riperton joined them right after this.

  • This was one of my faves... I saw Billy Stewart at the Apollo many times in my youth. His style was unique and inimitable. I was so sad when we lost him, and I feel he is as important as Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and the many other legends of soul that get recognition; he doesn't seem to get as much. He has a great portfolio of hits. RIP Billy Stewart.

  • this is a classic, i love it..

  • GOLLY,GOLLY GEE WILLIELUNCHEONETTE!!! YOU ARE WELCOME!

  • @MegaMaparker Hi MegaMaparker. Thanks for remembering this beautiful man. You care a lot and must have a wonderful appreciation for his talent. If only more people would listen to him sing I'm sure they would be moved by him. I only recently discovered the songs Look Back and Smile/ No Girl. Same music, different words. What a fantastic song! One of his very best, in my opinion. Someone as beautiful as he was is surely going to have a wonderful next life which I hope he is still enjoying.

  • it was on this day that the fabulous mr billy stewart lost his life while on tour (jan 17 1970) RIP

  • thanks for uploading this song from the original 45 with its extra few seconds of music.Any extra seconds of this sublime song are greatly appreciated. And vinyl usually sounds better than CD. If there are two more beautiful soul songs than Strange Feeling and Sitting In The Park I would like to hear them. What a beautiful man Billy must have been to sing this song so beautifully and be answered by a chorus that sounds likes its coming from heaven. When I hear this song my heart starts to melt.

  • I too saw Billy at the Famed Apollo Theater! He was one of my very favorites of all time! Guess he reminds me of my youth and all the good times we had slow dancing with your favorite guy at a place called "The Devil's Inn" on 155th st. and 8th ave. in Harlem. Or those house parties we had in the Bronx. Let's not leave out the Brooklyn blue light basement parties. Billy Stewart,Smokey, The Dells etc. made my teen-age years the "bomb"

    Thanks for this post Boo

  • Love this!!! Thank you Billy Stewart wherever you are!

  • earth wind and fire preformed this live

  • @pghpookie I heard it was Minnie Ripperton and her group The Gems. They did backup vocals for Fontella Bass, Etta James, Chuck Berry and most of the Chess crew.
