This song would probably not sit well with me if I would have quit playing after getting the bad ending but since I went back to get the good ending it stands as one of my favorite and emotionally driven songs I can think of.
My only question is where on this list does the theme from FFX sit? if it's higher then this then I'm disappointed because it just shows that this song isn't known as well as it should be. It's among the best ending tracks I've ever heard.
maldianlegend: I have to disagree! It may not be grandiose, but it is immensely powerful in a subtler way: after all the pain that Lavos and the Time Devourer caused, this song is like being healed. Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion: I think that you would probably think higher of "Life A Distant Promise" which is the more grand version of this song (and is excellent as well)
What you say is true if it was the opening song of the game itself. However this is an ending song so I think its slow pace suits its purpose quite well.
Second thing (since I ran out of characters), and this is much more important, since a serene but beautiful song could definitely be very memorable and very good.
This song really lacks a strong identity. If you heard the first couple guitar riffs from this song, would you be able to place it? Maybe you would but I wouldn't. It's good guitar, but it's not distinct enough. Something like the FF anthem--when you hear that begin, you recognize it instantly. That is the most important thing.
Interesting. This is actually much higher than I would have rated it. It's a beautiful melodic song (particularly the last third), but it lacks two major things. One--it has no real sense of grandeur. That might not be a problem, but to me that's one of the fundamental essences of memorable RPG music. The whole point is that your participating in something larger than life, and a great song will really push that atmosphere.
The best part is at 3:05 onward...Those harmonies are just too beautiful.

I've tried to not dog your positioning, but this song is way too low. This is one of Mitsuda's crowning achievements in VGM.
