The mood was somber in the southeastern Pakistani city of Multan on Wednesday, a day after ten people were killed in a bombing.

Militants armed with rocket-propelled grenades, hand grenades and a car bomb attacked an office of Pakistan's main security agency in the city of Multan on Tuesday, wounding another 47.

Between two and four attackers fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a checkpoint outside the Inter-Services Intelligence agency office then threw hand grenades and set off a car bomb, according to police.

The fronts of several homes near the checkpoint were destroyed.

Two of the dead were believed to have been suicide attackers.

On Wednesday, security was tight on a road leading to the blast site. The atmosphere at Multan's main market, which usually bustles with early risers, was gloomy.

Angry residents blamed government policies for militant attacks.

[Malik Arshad, Multan Resident]:
"These incidents will continue to take place until our government makes its own policies independently."

[Rana Ishtiaque, Multan Resident]:
"I request the government makes policies which can ensure peace returns to this area."

The bomb attack in the eastern city was the third in Pakistan in two days and underscored the relentless security troubles facing the U.S. ally whose help is vital in efforts to stabilize neighboring Afghanistan.

President Barack Obama sent a clear message to Pakistan last week in his speech outlining plans to send 30,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan. Pakistan, he said, must not allow its territory to be used as a sanctuary for militants.
