Radio Interview with Dave Gahan (06-02-1997) PART 2

PART 2 of 2. Not so much talking about Depeche Mode's then latest album, Ultra, but more about personal matters.

A radio interview for the Dutch network VPRO, on the program 'Naar Eer en Geweten'. Taken in the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam, on the 6th of February, 1997. Interviewer Leonieke Daalder states: "I had never been at the Amstel Hotel before. An intimidating setting. On top of that, the band had been surrounded by all kinds of staff from the record company, both from Holland as from England.
I had judged it to be less grand beforehand: Depeche mode is globally much more famous than they had ever been in The Netherlands. De band did the interview seperately: Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher together in one room, Dave Gahan in another. There wasn't a great connection with Gore and Fletcher, but Gahan only needed little encouragement."

The last thing Dave said sounded very sad...does anybody know anything in detail about his marriage with Teresa?

@xMadelienex Later he checked into a hotel, and when he went back to their house, he saw that every single thing in their house was gone. She had taken all, and she must have had help from a friend, since only few people knew the security code.

And later he met Jennifer in rehab, where she was a coach, since she's also a recovering drug addict.

That's all I know from his relationship with Theresa. :)

@FuellingObsession thank you for that instant and detailed reply! It was unexpected and wow, I wonder what's happened to her now. I thought he got burgled by people who knew him but I didn't realise it was her! How could she do that...Who would let go of Dave Gahan? !? Crazy lady

Believe it or not, she now works as a "life coach" for celebrities, telling them how to organise their lives. On youtube you can find a clip of her from a TV reality program.

@xMadelienex Hmm, it's been a while since I've watched it, but I remember that it was on her own Youtube channel, and the video received nothing but negative comments and insults, so I wouldn't be surprised if she deleted it. I'll let you know if I find it.

---->Dave, and other artists, are tremendously sensitive people. They are thinkers and feelers. They have more things processing in their brains than the average. They notice more. They feel more. Dave perhaps just needs to stop searching for that elusive inner peace and allow himself to be O.K. with the knots he struggles with inside. Running from pain IS pain. Letting go, releasing into it is where he can find his liberation. Just a thought.

@xMadelienex He rejected this because he realised that they were just ghosts of their former selves, saying that they were junkies, and that their bodies can't "eat, shit, piss, come, nothing". Then after numerous visits to rehab, he told her in the car that he was really going to try to remain sober. But then she said something like "this doesn't mean that I will stop using also, you know". So that's when he knew that he had to break up with her.

@xMadelienex Well from the interviews that he did in '96 and '97, you can conclude that they were not the best couple. As for his addiction: Dave has said that he had used drugs here and there before he started dating her, but as they started dating, she introduced him to a lot of celebrities and drug users since she was already in that "scene", and so that's when he became addicted. He even had a toilet designed for using drugs there. She wanted to have a child with him, but he rejected this.
