CHAN: The bird flu has been recently detected in South Korea. Domestic media says the virus has increased in South Korea despite the country taking quarantine measures last Thursday to stop the spread.

STORY: The South Korean government says bird flu has been found in a pair of chickens in Seosan where the first outbreak took place last Thursday. It¡¯s yet to be confirmed whether it is a high or low virulent strain of bird flu.

A local newspaper reported today 500 chickens had died in four days at a poultry farm in Yangpyong outside of Seoul. It¡¯s confirmed to be a a mild strain of birdflu, a less serious strain of bird flu. South Korea sees about 20 cases of mild bird flu every year.

South Korea expects to cull over 200 thousand poultry by the end of the week to prevent spreading of the highly virulent H5N1 strain of bird flu, - which was found in the country and confirmed last Saturday for the first time in three years, officials said. They will now start culling all poultry within a 500-metre radius of a farm in Iksan in about 200 km from Seoul where the bird flu strain has been detected. The quarantine will include culling 300 pigs and 600 dogs in the area.

On Sunday, South Korean Prime Minister had chicken soup in a public gesture to say it's safe to eat cooked chicken.

[Han Myung-sook, Prime Minister]: "The viruses are killed if you boil them for five minutes at 75 degrees celsius. So all the chicken food on sale are safe to eat."

Seoul citizens' opinion on the safety of chicken food is divided. Many housewives say they will think twice about buying chicken.

But a man at a chicken soup restaurant had a different idea.

[South Korean Resident]:

"I am not worried. It's delicious. I like chicken food. I don't care about bird flu. I am eating chicken food with no worry."

  • 2004 At Indian Ocean earthquake(Tsunami), Japan urgent supported 500 million dollars.

South Korea said, "50 million dollars are supported to Stricken area".

However, Korea paid only 2.95 million dollars.

When South Korea went bankrupt ten years ago, Japan lent South Korea $10 billion by way of Asian Development Bank.

However, South Korea has not repaid it yet.

Why does Korea always do a bad thing?~~~

  • They can consider whatever they want holy. I will never have respect for religion that needs to be "taught" to someone. True religion comes from the god within you and I.

  • Sure, you may not care about cows as much as you do about dogs, but they are still animals, and besides, people in India, who consider cows holy, would see mistreating cows as offensive as much as amercians consider mistreating dogs as offensive.

I'm not saying I don't care about dogs or all koreans are good.. I used to care for a puppy once. Just don't get igrnorant generalizations of other nations just over one bad example set by a few people of that country.

  • mutedmajority..

you think all koreans, and only koreans, torture dogs? There could be other people in other countries doing just the same too. And just because dogs are a favorite animal of the US doesn't mean you should have sympathy just for dogs. How about cows? In US, they are using electric shocks and tractors to move sick cows into the slaughter houses.

  • Intensive farming. Wrong wrong wrong

  • Gosh, if I ran my own country and someone had the birdflu they would be shot with chemical gun, sprayed on, the area would be cleared and their dead body would be put in an incinerator--to save the masses. Bastards who carry the strand knowingly go on planes and spread it to innocents, those infected and pass it on should burn in hell.

  • Yikes
