I know that at the East Broad Top Railroad all the mikados have automatic bells, that can be hand rung also. The earliest mikado was number 12, built in 1911 and is 100 years old this year.
@rdamurphy Some of its sister locomotives out on the Cumbres and Toltec and Durango and Silverton have automatic bells, but they are of a newer class, the k-28s, the k-36s, and the k-37s.
I don't think I've ever seen a D&RGW or RGS narrow gauge locomotive with automatic bells. These locomotives were built in 1902, and retired by the late 40's/early 50's, and at the end of their operation, they were mostly used as yard switchers, or on the substandard track of the RGS.
BTW, the bells were normally only rung outside yard limits and under 8 mph...
Haul "heavy coal loads" in the Rocky Mountains? I doubt a K-27 EVER hauled a coal train, unless it was going to a terminal for the locomotives themselves...
Where is this RR? Cause I think they are taking very good care of 464!! I mean look at that wonderful coat of paint. Well very good vid, 5 stars, and give this scenic rr my gratitude for saving only the second k-27 in the World!
so wait what locomotive model is this

those engines always had automatic bells, but i guess they made it hand operated

Love it how when the engine is coming right at you at the crossing with the train and you can hear some of the key chimes in the whistle.
