TriMet, Metro and the City of Tigard are considering plans for MAX to be extended from downtown Portland to Tigard. Many of the current suggestions infer MAX would be a surface line built within Highway 99W (Pacific Highway) and on Barbur Boulevard. Such a proposal will have massive negative impacts, including loss of traffic lanes - with no alternate routes, loss of businesses, loss of neighborhood bus service, and several years of construction. A subway would eliminate most of the negatives, provide better transit to more places, and would also provide for quality bus service on Barbur Boulevard as well as Capitol Highway.
