What is a browser? was the question we asked over 50 passersby of different ages and backgrounds in the Times Square in New York. Watch the many responses people came up with.

  • It would be interesting to re-run this in 2011 or 2012 - to see how much people have changed in 2 or 3 years.

  • Can't say I'm surprised. People use technology they don't understand all the time. As everything gets progressively better it's impossible to completely understand all the technology we are interacting with day to day.

  • @minidarknova No, its everywhere (except Asia) If you went on the streets of Berlin or Paris, you would get the same damn answers. People use technology that they don't understand.

  • Videos like this seriously piss me off. I can't believe how many people don't know what those things are. I mean seriously. (Old people don't count but the younger ones have no excuse). If you asked them what Facebook was I bet you would get the correct answer even though people don't know what the hell they're using(browser) to get ON Facebook.

  • me: Hey! guys at google what is privacy?

guys at google: Uhh, we dont know

  • Utter, profound ignorance. Hell, why is America so dumb?

  • 1:18 What a good friend.

  • 2 years ago i would have given the same answer too about firefox but now its all about chrome

  • Maybe Google need spend some of that cash they make to buy huge ads for teach people what a browser is and also promote their own browser!

  • Google Chrome. Done deal

  • @veeableful Actually, it's probably likely that they all browse through facebook or 9Gag (Especially considering how many people use Facebook nowadays). I would say that, simply put, even though they use those programs, they don't really understand the technology or definitions behind it. It's very easy to use many products, but to understand exactly 'what' they do to make it so easy requires a general idea of what it is, how it's works; it's mechanics.
