@EMGColonel I'd knew of Crumwell (but not Crummell) in theory, but had never heard it. Cuvent Garden, Cuventry, and Rumford are all familiar, of course.

"Crumwell"? I'd not heard of Ion Swindley, but I like him more and more after that.

@webrarian Yes that is the correct pronounciation of that name - sometimes it's alos pronounced Crummell (something i was taught at Scholl - i doubt they do that these days )

The Rev. Mervyn Clare arrived at Stoke Poges as vicar in 1926. Of Irish descent, he died in 1945.

@webrarian That's how i pronounce Coventry - i also say "Brammagem" rather than Birmingham and Ill - ustrated rather than ilustrated

Whatever is that background "music"? It sounds more like a horror film with tolling bells and creepy organ.

@webrarian I agree - There's the "Creepy bloke " at the begining who may or may not be the "Vicar", then you hear that it's "The Hour of Curfew" and THEN that they are recording it OVER the Tomb of the author, I expected to hear a creak and Tom Gray's hand appear and grab Ion swindley and pull him in !!!! I'm certain M R James (or Francis James ?) could have written a story about this ,,,,,,,
