Inspired by the early works of Carcass. A few misspent hours of fun.
Tinkering with a Corpse
Ghoulish with mildew, damaged by blight
I couldn't have wished for a more pleasing sight!
Intestinal microbes just starting to peak
Stuffed in my closet, you languish for weeks
Your belly distends as the viscera pool
Navel expands 'til it vents and drools
Roiling innards smelt into hash
Meanwhile, your countenance flakes off like ash
Your aging guts transform to mulch
Textured and replete
The noxious, runny, clod-filled gulch
reduced to miraculous peat
I try to drag you by the arms;
Your skin sloughs off in sheets
It hits the floor like rotten cabbage--
Bon appetit!
Savagely I cut a square of hide and stretch it thin
Clearly, death has robbed you of the elasticity of skin
Rubbery and translucent, the snaky veins show right through
Up against the swinging light-bulb: rivulets of blue
Snug in your skull, semi-gelatinous,
Your corrugated brain
My passion, as I admire the spongy organ,
Borders on the insane
Industriously I uncoil the lobes
Like ropes, they're strewn in the room
But quickly it all turns to porridge
and must be pried out with a spoon
Your life was mean and short
Now I tinker with your corpse
My curiosity is obscene . . .
(Complicated and bleak)
Each limb curtly pruned
All digits removed
You're uniquely ruined
(Brutally simplified)
The living heart wrenched
The spurting organ clenched
You're evidently wrecked
(My forearm is drenched)
Your life was mean and short
Now I tinker with your corpse
My curiosity is so bleak
I've made a mess of things,
So to speak
